The wonderful ’Uthingo’ present us with the extraordinarily powerful traditional drum rhythms, dance, and song from the very heart of South Africa.
With their stunning traditional costumes they present pieces which include the Zulu war dances, Shangaan, Xhosa and Sotho dances and all with vibrant energy and intensity.
The word ‘Uthingo’ itself is a Zulu word for ‘Rainbow’. in Zulu tradition, the Princess of the Rainbow oversees and blesses the planting and fruition of all kinds of seeds and this dance company was founded in 1983 with the aim of sowing the seeds of South African culture around the world.
Since then, Uthingo have been wowing audiences with performances and workshops at many big festivals such as the ‘African Sounds for Nelson Mandela’ which was filmed for Channel 4, apart from fulfilling countless engagements at corporate events and private parties both at home in the UK and abroad.
